The Louët Octo drop spindle has lighter weight or whirl to help with the spinning motion and a hook on the short side of the shaft, closest to the weight. The weight is on top during spinning. Yarn goes through the hook, around the weight and collects on the shaft after the spinner wraps the spun yarn.
